DIY Play Dough / Plasticine / Playing Clay for Kids

Jelly is already 2 years and 5 months old but she still likes to put stuff in her mouth! I dare not buy those Plasticine or Play Dough as I am afraid she will put it in her mouth, which is dangerous or poisonous. This is when I decided to search for recipe to make our own Play Dough, in which I know what ingredients I in put in and it's safe if Jelly accidentally eats it on purpose (Yes, she likes to taste everything!).

I manage to try this recipe from Living Well Mom. It's ingredients are actually easy to find in local supermarket or mini market or bakery shop. Total cost for me to make these are actually kinda cheap, it's only around RM6 for quite a big portion. Just the food coloring we can borrow from others if we don't have the colors. I didn't make much colors as Jelly will still mix up all the colors so I only made 3 colors + 1 white (I only have yellow and red food dye, so just mixed them up and I get 3 different colors).

Eventually I made it with my husband's cousin sister as I cannot manage a clinging toddler at my leg while cooking... Although in the web only mentioned ready in 10 min, we spend almost 30 min for the dough to be ready to play with, because 2 toddlers(Jelly and her cousin brother) are kinda demanding, so we took more time to have the dough to be ready. We also need to knit the dough for it to be softer, smoother and cooler only pass it to the kids to play with. They played for almost 2 hours and refuse to rest or keep! So it's kinda addicting!

If you wish to know how to make it, visit Living Well Mom. Below Ingredients I copy from her website but I change it into grams instead of cups. Recipe below is enough for 1 kid, since it's 2 of them, we made 2 portions so I double up the recipe below:-

1 Portion of DIY PlayDough / Plasticine / Playing Clay
340g flour
340ml water - I find it too watery so I only put in around 300ml of water
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
115g salt
1 tablespoon vegetable or canola oil
food coloring

Note: I did follow her recipe on mixing all the ingredients first but I cook the dough first then only divide the dough into 4 portions, then I knit the dough with 1 or 2 drops of food coloring while the dough is still hot but I didn't cook the dough further. 2 Portions is about 7 balls of 8-9 cm diameter balls.

Ugh... I made a lizard and Jelly just poke a fork in it!
Review: - The dough was soft and smooth. It was very salty (I tasted it), as Jelly eventually puts it in her mouth, as she thought it can be eaten... But I stopped her and tell her to play with it not to eat it... LOL! I keep it in the fridge and take it out if Jelly wants to play and it is still soft. Hope it last and doesn't grow moldy fast... I gave her only 1 color at a time as she tends to mix them up. Overall it's worth making it.

I don't get paid by this review and all are my humble and honest review.
