Upcycle Park at Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam, Penang

The Upcycle Park in Bandar Perda (Bukit Mertajam) has been recently officiate by Penang Chief Minister, Mr Lim Guan Eng. Wonder what is an Upcycle Park? It is a new concept by turning the wasted materials (such as tires, pallets, plastic bottles and so on) as decoration items and made a normal reservoir into a beautiful recreational park. All ideas and efforts are from the creativity of the staff of the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP)! It is located next to the MPSP Headquarters at Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

It was near our neighborhood,  therefore we had a short trip to visit this place. They even have recycled materials to turn into chairs, tables and even toy bike for kids to play with! The place is still clean, and there are some who are fishing at the reservoir. It was previously a closed area, but now it's open to public.

Notes to consider if bringing kids or elderly people:-
- Place is a recreational park, but without barriers, so please be careful. Please guide your kids not to destroy the plants and decorations around the area.
- Wheel chair accessible as there are no steps.
- Make sure to bring a water bottle to keep hydrated as it is not shaded. We visited around 4.30pm but it was cloudy and windy but it is still warm and hot. Jelly is soaking wet in sweat as she keeps running!
- Make sure to wear shoes which is comfortable to walk or jog around.
- Better get a spare clothes for kids if they sweat a lot to have a change of clothes. (Jelly sweats a lot and she is soaking wet when we are going home after the walk, so I need to let her change to avoid getting flu while sitting in a air con car with a wet dress)
- There are no public toilet around.
- Beware of many inconsiderate motorcyclist as they are also riding using the walking paths.
