Lao Xiang Claypot Bak Kut Teh (Bukit Mertajam) 老鄉(砂煲)肉骨茶 Review

Warning: This post of food is NON HALAL

It is another normal weekday when my family has the craving urge to eat meat (actually it's me that having the meat craving... LOL!). I am not sure about other states but Penang wet market will not sell fresh pork meat on Monday, but this won't stop us from eating Bak Kut Teh from a local shop!

This time we wanted to try dried Bak Kut Teh and Lao Xiang has it. With the help of Waze, we search and know where the estimated place is and we are on our way! (They are open on Monday)
老鄉肉骨茶
Dried version of Bak Kut Teh
2pax portion - RM 18.50

Normal Soup Bak Kut Teh
2Pax portion - RM17.50
Bak Kut Teh versions:
Soup (Top)
Dried (Bottom)
The difference between dried and soup version is that the dried version is spicy and has dried squid and lady's finger. It is also cooked with dark soy sauce and has a slight burnt aroma. Love the taste and smell! They also serve other side dish like veges like bean sprout and iceberg lettuce. We ordered ice berg lettuce serve with some oyster sauce.

Iceberg lettuce with Oyster sauce - small - RM5.00

They only have White rice
RM1.00

Fried dough (You Char Koay) - RM1.20

Their Bill

They mentioned close on Thursday 2/6/2016

Review:
Taste: For the dried version of Bak Kut Teh, I like the burnt smell of the sauce. Not really spicy and the meat is tender, rating 7/10. But for the soup wise was kinda disappointing as it is not as good as Good Master (review HERE) and the aroma is also not strong. Kinda thirsty after eating (5/10). Overall the portion is kinda small for us small eaters... We ordered 6pax portion and eats 4, as Jelly doesn't eat much.
Service: Better than Good Master  (review HERE) and they are very attentive to our needs. (like extra rice or fried dough (You Char Koay) (7/10)
Notes:
~They provide baby chair so can bring kids/children who can sit by their own support.
~Not much parking and hardly any parking nearby as there are shops beside and opposite.
~This shop doesn't charged GST 6% on total bill. There are no signboards displaying their price either.
~Has a small white board indicate when are they close.
~Day time only sitting inside, night time they open extra tables outside.
