洪妈妈私房菜 肉骨茶火锅 / Hung Mama Bak Kut Teh Review

We wanted to try this place long ago and we came 4 times without reservation(last minute planning) on weekend and we often go home hungry and disappointing because they are so many customers that came and we often couldn't get a table. Maybe fifth time is a charm for us and also we came on a normal weekday. They are famous for their seafood on the table as well! Chinese name as "海鲜大聚会" means "Seafood Gathering". Many had spread how delicious and good is this place so my parent's in law wanted to try it so they can boast about it. Sad part about this post is that my phone spoiled so I use an old phone with poor photography.. :'( Apologies for such a poor quality photography in this post...

I called 2 hours earlier to asked if their place is packed (if so we can dine another place), a lady picked up and say if weekends won't be pack and we are welcome to dine in without booking. But when I asked if they have stock for mantis prawn today, she said not sure as she is not at the shop yet. We just make our way to their shop even we are also not sure is the place packed or not (as she just gave us a very general statement, "if weekend not packed").

After a 40 min drive from Bukit Mertajam, we arrived their place. It is indeed not as packed as we imagine or encountered before where there are no tables or place to park our car.

They have signboards
But only written in Mandrine

Their shop location, sit open air surrounded by coconut trees

Ice Kacang Machine, FOC & Free flow
Jelly's dad checking the ice.. LOL

While waiting food to be served and to avoid Jelly eating the Ice Kacang,
we distract her to see a mini parrot. She is trying to blow them.

Their Kitchen's entrance

Jelly enjoying on a bench

Dining area under a zinc roof

Bak Kut Teh's ingredients

Jelly waiting for the Bak Kut Teh to boil

We ordered the RM100 set.
The Seafood on the table came with:
 1 mud crab (±350g)
Prawns

They provide gloves for those who doesn't want to dirty their hands,
but I love eating with bare hands... XD

Their Menu & Price List
(Only in Mandarin)
The Bak Kut Teh Soup base charged at RM15 and you can add on your selection of meat or other ingredients. We ordered the RM45 Bak Kut Teh package which consist of those in RED words which are Pork meat, meat balls, pork ribs, pork tail, fried bean sticks, black fungus, enoki mushroom and green salad vege. (Noted that their price for each ingredient is very expensive for a small portion, compared to normal Bak Kut Teh shop).
Bill - Total RM169
We ordered as below:
Bak Kut Teh - RM45
Seafood platter - RM100
3 Drinks (Chrysanthemum) - RM 4.50 (RM1.50 each)
Beer (Tiger) - RM15.50
4White Rice - RM4 (RM1 each)
Review:
Taste: We ordered the Kam Heong flavour for the seafood platter was a little spicy for me and it is full of curry powder taste (Not suitable for toddlers), and I personally still prefer Shell Dumping from Kari Corner (which has sweet-spicy flavor) . The seafood is also a little salty and we were thirsty after eating their food. Their Bak Kut Teh smells and taste nice, and that is only what Jelly can eat. We also ordered their drinks which is their chrysanthemum which is tasteless and not sweet at all, like drinking plain water with a little coloring. Food wise still ok, but if possible, since they offer FOC ice kacang, don't order their drinks. (5/10)
Service: Their service was slow and served around 30 minutes on normal weekdays which they claimed less people (imagine you need to wait longer if on weekends). They also didn't have GST or service charge. But from the food size portion it is rather expensive. Place is also hot and humid as they provide limited fan and some customers are selfish that they lock the fan from rotating. Not a very nice experience dining there with such a price. (6/10)
Notes:
~ They provide baby chair so can bring kids/children who can sit by their own support.
~ Ample parking available
~ This shop doesn't charged GST 6% on total bill. There are no signboards displaying their price either, only on their menu.
~ Open air concept, surrounded by coconut trees, remember to bring insect repellent if not wanting mosquito kisses.
~ All communication and menu is written in Mandarin only, even their bill.
